Shane M. Wagstaff | BComm CPA CFP
Owner | Accountant | Financial Planner
Shane is the founder of Horizon CPA and currently operates the Red Deer and Trochu locations. Tax and financial planning interests inspired Shane to become a dual designated professional (Chartered Professional Accountant/Certified Financial Planner) and focus on a holistic approach to financial advisory. Although Shane has a wide range of professional experience, his core clientele consists of farmers, ranchers, oilfield contractors, holding companies and other small to mid sized business clients. Shane also has a keen interest in optimal personal financial planning, retirement planning and succession planning for families.
Shane was born and raised on a family farm near Elnora and attended Trochu Valley School. Upon graduation, he went directly to the University of Alberta where he obtained his Bachelor of Commerce degree (Accounting major & Finance minor) and graduated with Distinction.
After gaining the relevant credentials and experience through multiple firms in Edmonton and Red Deer, Shane launched his own practice. With a refreshing focus on tax, technology and financial planning, Horizon CPA was born. Shane has also ventured into a number of additional businesses including the management and part-ownership of Balkwill Pharmacy Ltd and the launch of his investment management practice Wagstaff Wealth Management.
Shane has also continued to be actively involved on the family farm and has remained active with a number of volunteer organizations. He most notably sits on the Board of Directors for the FarmHouse Alumni Association and the Three Hills Thrashers Jr B Hockey Club. Shane is also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and Golden Key International Honor Society.
In his spare time, Shane is an avid hockey player, loves to play the guitar and has a keen interest in world financial markets.
Blaine J. Gendre | BComm CPA
Manager | Accountant
Blaine is a manager and accountant with Horizon CPA and joined the practice in early 2019. He grew up on an acreage south of Stettler, Alberta. After completing a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Alberta he then went on to complete the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) program in the fall of 2019.
Blaine has held accounting and financial management roles with multiple businesses in the oil, gas & mining industries for seven years. He understands the daily struggles that businesses face in order to keep the wheels turning. He has a strong belief that well managed finances of a business are just as important as the goods and services they provide.
Blaine is experienced in cash management, profitability, business valuations and large scale business operations. He also believes budgeting and forecasting are an essential component to ensuring businesses can navigate the ever-changing economy. He has a strong interest in technology and its specific ability to generate opportunities for business efficiencies.
Blaine currently lives in south Edmonton and services the firm's Edmonton client base. He has a focus on health and wellness, enjoys travelling, hockey and taking his dog for runs. Blaine has a passion for entrepreneurship and helping businesses grow and evolve.
